For the Love of Snow

Updated: Feb 4, 2022

Winter travel ideas for anyone that loves the cold.

Winter is not quite the same when you live in Florida. But it is one of the reasons I live here. That said there is something about a blanket of fresh snow that makes me long for those days curled up on the sofa looking out the window with a warm cup of hot chocolate.

If you dream of hot chocolate or mulled wine, Christmas markets, and craggy mountain peaks dusted with snow, then you're in luck. Europe has plenty of options when it comes to idyllic destinations. Bundle up and explore a few places you may not have considered to experience that winter feeling.

There are many reasons to visit Reykjavik, and the rest of Iceland for that matter, in the winter. See the jaw-dropping Northern Lights, enormous glaciers, black sand beaches or gushing waterfalls to name a few. While daylight may be short, there is still plenty of time to discover the natural wonders that seem to come alive in the winter months. And with daylight short, you have a better chance to see the northern lights.

Offering some of the best mountain adventures in Europe, this region is a unique blend of Austrian and Italian cultures, evident in the food and language. The city of Bolzano is known as the gateway to the Dolomites.

Visit its famous Christmas market, sip Alsatian wine, and stroll the illuminated streets at night.

Switzerland is a country of stunning winter escapes, but none are quite as striking as Zermatt, the picturesque village in southern Switzerland sitting at the foot of the world-famous Matterhorn. If your idea of heaven is a day spent skiing or snowboarding, Zermatt is the perfect place to go. The village itself has plenty of charm too, with restaurants serving melty fondue and cozy chalets to warm your bones.
