This article is an introduction to 6 of the most popular countries visited every year in Europe. There is so much to see in each country and it can't truly be explained in just one paragraph but it is a good place to start. These are only six of the most visited but Europe is a big place with many wonderful places to see. Choose a country to visit based on your likes such as hiking, history, food, wine, and architecture. You won't be disappointed.

Italy

Italy is one of the most popular countries to visit in Europe and for good reason. It is home to some of the world's most iconic landmarks, such as the Colosseum, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Pompeii, Canals of Venice, and Vatican City. Italy is also famous for its delicious cuisine, beautiful art, museums, fashion, architecture, and stunning coastline.

The best time to visit Italy is in the spring (March-May) or fall (September-November) when the weather is mild and the crowds are smaller.

France

France is known for its romantic atmosphere, beautiful landmarks, and world-renowned museums and cuisine. It is home to the iconic Eiffel Tower, the Palace of Versailles, Normandy Beach, and the Louvre Museum to name just a few of the wonderful things to see in and near Paris. Paris is the most visited city in France and you can see why. The museums in Paris alone can keep you busy for a week. France is, of course, also famous for its wine, cheese, and fashion too.

The best time to visit France is in the spring (April-June) or fall (September-November) when the weather is mild and the crowds are smaller and prices are better. Prices go up in June for the summer and crowds are large.

Spain

Spain is a country full of culture, history, and stunning scenery and it is known for its beautiful beaches, delicious food, and lively nightlife. Spain is home to landmarks such as the Sagrada Familia, The Prado Museum, Park Guell, and the Alhambra Palace. You can't stop there however, the history, architecture, food, and festivals in Spain span the country. A typical route of Barcelona, Madrid, and Sevilla is a wonderful way to start but there is so much more to see.

Although a good time to go, summer, like the others will cost more and be more crowded. The best time to visit Spain is in the spring (March-May) or fall (September-November) when the weather is mild and the crowds are smaller.

Germany

Germany is a country that is rich in history and culture. A few of its famous landmarks include the Brandenburg Gate, the Berlin Wall, the Black Forest, Heidelberg Castle, and the Neuschwanstein Castle. Germany is also famous for its beer, sausages, Christmas markets, and Oktoberfest in Munich. The most visited city in Germany is Berlin, the capital. It attracts millions of tourists each year from all over the world and is known for its rich history, vibrant cultural scene, and diverse attractions.

Summer is a good time but will cost more and be busier. The best time to visit Germany is in the spring (May-June) or fall (September-October) when the weather is mild and the crowds are smaller. Christmas markets start in November.

Greece

Greece is a country that is full of ancient history, stunning beaches, and delicious cuisine. It is home to landmarks such as the Acropolis, the Parthenon, and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. Greece is also famous for its beautiful islands, such as Santorini and Mykonos. And lesser know but popular Paros.

While summer is a good time to go. The best time to visit Greece is in the spring (May) or fall (September-October) when the weather is mild and the crowds are smaller. The Islands vary slightly from the mainland and most places are open by the end of April so always check before planning.

United Kingdom

The United Kingdom (UK) consists of four countries: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. So adding this to the list is cheating a bit with four countries to see in the United Kingdom. The most popular city to visit in the UK is London. It is the capital city, and business center. It is full of historical and cultural significance. London has many famous landmarks and attractions that make it a special destination for tourists. These include the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, the British Museum, and the West End theater district. It also has a vibrant nightlife scene, world-class shopping, and a diverse food culture.

The best time to visit London depends on personal preference, but generally, the summer months from June to August are the most popular due to the warmer weather and longer days. Check each country before you plan your trip to the United Kingdom as the weather can vary. Summer offers some wonderful festivals in Scotland with the highland games and August offers the Military Tattoo.
